Who is on the Ryder Cup Team USA 2006?

Well the long race is over. At the end of US PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club the positions remain unchanged after another unassailable performance by Woods. The 10 automatic qualifying spots on the US Ryder Cup (see here for how this works) are as follows (final points tally is shown in brackets):

Those who just failed qualify and who are no doubt waiting anxiously on the Captain Tom Lehman’s two wildcard picks are:

Tom Lehman will announce these two wildcard picks at 8AM today (21 August) and we will bring it to you here as soon as we get it. Congratulations to all who qualified and commiserations to those who just narrowly failed to qualify. There are a number of ‘unknowns’ in the shape of this US Ryder Cup team which will only add to excitement of the matches.

[…] Zach Johnson (31) was one of the suprise rookies who qualified for the 2006 US Ryder Cup Team and his win at this years Masters at Augusta National was no less suprising.  Under the new US Ryder Cup team qualification system the Masters is one of only four events for which Ryder Cup points will be awarded for 2007, one point being awarded for every $1000 earned.  Johnson’s last round 69, which secured victory over Tiger Woods in the pairing behind him for only his second ever PGA Tour win, his only previous win came at the 2004 BellSouth Classic.  His win however could signify a golfer settling in for a long stretch at the top of a lot of leaderboards to come.
