It’s over now and much to my delight the American team won. HOWEVER, I thought the Europeans played brilliantly and Captain Faldo has absolutely nothing to regret. I greatly regret that some rowdy fan was rude to Westwood because Lee didn’t deserve it. He’s such a fine gentleman.

As an American, I’m glad that our European friends present such high calibre players and men. Doing so does great honor to the game.

The Ryder Cup is firmly within view now. This week saw the US Ryder Cup team finalised (and the US Captain’s picks announced) and as we enter the last weeks of the European qualifying competitions the team is beginning to become clear. There’s still a lot of competition for those last places. Here’s the latest standings for who’s going to make the European Ryder Cup Team on merit.

Interestingly Olazábal has now dropped out of the World Cup Points list and qualifies under the European Points list which has inadvertently given McGinley a boost in his hopes despite not playing in the US PGA Championship to attend the funeral of Heather Clarke (See this article for how this works).
