The full fury of Tiger Woods and his wife looks set to be unleashed on the Dubliner magazine.
The Dubliner, which carried a misleading (allegedly satirical) article featuring nude photos of a model which they claimed incorrectly to be of Tiger’s wife Elin Nordegren, is now being sued. The Dubliner is about to reap the whirlwind it would appear, having sought to settle the matter with an apology and an offer of a donation to charity they are now faced with the reality that Nordegren has issued libel proceedings in the Irish High Court against the magazine and Trevor White, its editor.
The magazine obviously underestimated the full cost of their attempts to use Nordegren to sell some magazines at the time of the Ryder Cup in Ireland and may now be facing a hefty settlement. Tiger Woods is one of the worlds richest sports stars and I imagine that he wasn’t too happy to have his wife humiliated on her trip to Ireland. The editorial staff of the Dubliner will not be comforted by the recent defamation case in which businessman Denis O’Brien was awarded a record 750,000 from the Mirror Group.
