This is the first course to be specifically designed for the Ryder Cup.
Celtic Manor are now offering an exciting opportunity for golf fans to experience the course first hand. With weekend packages from £470 per person the details are on the official Celtic Manor website www.celtic-manor.com. The package includes three nights accommodation, a round of golf on the new Twenty Ten course, breakfast and some goodies. I can only imagine that there will be quite a rush to play this course (if only for the bragging rights!) so I would advise you to book early to avoid disappointment.
The new Ryder Cup Course, which replaces the old Wentwood Hills course, is a stunning 7,493 yard, par 71 course. The players are faced with 70 bunkers and four lakes as well as six signature holes. There are nine of the original Wentworth Hills holes included in the course and nine brand new holes. The course makes extensive use of the valley, using the hillsides to provide a panoramic amphitheatre from which to view the entire course. The management hope to accommodate up to 50,000 spectators at each match.
This course is the culmination of the vision of Terry Matthews to bring the Ryder Cup to Wales. The task of designing and developing the course was a mammoth undertaking costing £16M with over 1 million tonnes of earth and rock used to fashion the course.
