I prefer the privacy of a house to rent during the ryder cup. The great part of renting a house is all your pals are in one area and it can cost the same or cheaper than a hotel over the 7 days. One with a pool table? bar? swimming pool? Car supplied? See some amazing packages on http://www.rydercup-accommodation.com/ryder-cup-2006.php

Louisville is almost completely out of hotel accomodations– Some folks are booking room in Lexington (over an hour away). Others are booking homes within walking distance of Valhalla at RentMyHouse4Derby.com

Hotel rooms are almost non-existant now in Louisville (all booked up), but there are some great houses available to rent at RentMyHouse4Derby.com! We have over 40 homes currently available and we have personally inspected every one. Come visit us today!

For those who do want a hotel room I’d suggest getting a AAA guidebook and looking at smaller towns nearby such as Bardstown, Elizabethtown, Shelbyville etc. I know Ryder Cup officials have advised hotels in Frankfort and Lexington to market rooms. I have been on a few sites and hotel packages in Louisville are pretty steep. Be wary of some of the claims. One site said that the Mariott resort in Lexington was 35 minutes from Valhalla. That’s only if you’re doing 90 mph the entire way.

I haven’t tried this before, but my husband and I are willing to house golfers at our home for the Ryder Cup. I grew up in a family of golfers so I’m pretty familiar with their schedules. Our home is located in the 40223 zip code, which is 6.4 miles to Valhalla. We have a lovely 4 bedroom home (2.5 baths), with a (nicely appointed) full finished basement with refrigerator in a great neighborhood. Backyard deck, spa & inground pool are included. Depending upon your party size, you might want 1 or 2 of the bedrooms, or the basement area. Either way, we’d allow you the run of the house, including kitchen & pool. Since our son is in school that week, we can’t leave the house. But we’d be glad to share with serious minded (but good-natured) golf enthusiasts. kynieto@mac.com

If you dont want a hotel room but dont want to pay the price of renting a private residence, I would suggest trying Edgewater Resort at Taylorsville Lake. Its located within 25 minutes of Valhalla. They rent lake cottages and are within half a mile of a nice golf course if you want to play while your here as well. They have a massage therapist on site as well as catering services available. The website is “ETL-Resort.Com” Plus when you look at the fact your getting two or three bedrooms plus full kitchen, hot tub on the rear deck, etc its a pretty great deal.

Stay in the comfort of a private home rather than in a hotel. The price works out at around the same as staying in a hotel during the Ryder Cup. There are some fantastic houses on http://www.acleshia.com that come with all kinds of extras…. Some with tickets to the event included in the price, private gym, pool tables, cinema/theatre rooms etc. Contact them now for more details.

Although a recent article in the Lexington Herald noted all Lexington Hotels were sold out for Ryder Cup, that is not the case.
Stay at the most magnificent hotel in Lexington:
The Hilton Suites of Lexington Green. An upscale, all-suite, full service hotel located next door to shopping, dining and entertainment.
We would love to have you!!!

[...] This is a map of the Lousiville area and specifically of the Valhalla Golf Club. If you are lucky enough to be getting a corporate hospitality package to the Ryder Cup or are hoping to get tickets through the lottery for the 37th Ryder Cup Matches at Valhalla in Kentucky, you might want to do some research on the area.
