Updated list of contenders for a place on the team for the Ryder Cup 2010 are a combination of the two following lists – with the top 4 players from the World Points list and the top 5 from the European Points list automatically qualifying for a place on the team. These 9 are then supplimented by the Captains 3 “Wildcard” Picks.

Royal Cup Role for Monty

Colin Montgomerie leads Europe in the Royal cup as they attempt to reclaim the cup from Asia this week. Standing in for Seve, Monty has also given himself a playing role — a first in the competition’s history. Naturally he will be keeping a close eye on possible candidates for his Europe team to face America at Celtic Manor in October.

The European side includes Swedes Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson, Alexander Noren and Peter Hanson, England’s Simon Dyson, Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen, Spain’s Pablo Martin and Montgomerie.

Montgomerie & Pavin to play exhibition match

Corey Pavin and Colin Montgomerie will play an exhibition match on Monday October 12th at The Celtic Manor Resort, as part of a celebration marking the Year to Go’ before the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales. The two captains will play 10 holes on The Twenty Ten Course the venue for the Ryder Cup 2010 and the first course built specifically to host the Ryder Cup. The match will precede a press conference and gala dinner.

The 2010 Ryder Cup will be conducted Oct. 1-3

Great news for those of you still looking for Ryder Cup tickets – There’s a second chance to enter the draw for Ryder Cup tickets 2010 – this second ballot is now open for registration at Seetickets.com. So if you missed out on the first draw get over and register – note that if you entered for the forst draw and were unsuccessful you will be automatically entered in the second ballot. The second computerised random lottery draw will take place in May 2010 and notifications will go out by the end of May…

The Race is On!

omega-mastersThe race for team places in the European Team for Ryder Cup 2010 is now officially underway with the start of the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre…

The points competition is for the 8 automatic places is up for grabs, but of course there’s also the very important chance to catch Montgomerie’s eye and play for a wildcard place.

With the Ryder Cup points now zeroed and all to play for Monty had the following to say…

It is a great opportunity for everybody to start from scratch this week in Switzerland and a great opportunity for everybody to make that Team, because I can speak from personal experience, it’s a fantastic atmosphere and a fantastic occasion to be involved with. It’s our Olympic Games, if you like, and I wish everybody every success in their attempts to make it.

Registration closes on July 31 – so get a move on!

The registration for the Ryder Cup Ticket lottery for Ryder Cup 2010 at Celtic Manor in Wales is now open!

The registration is open until July 31st and the lottery takes place in August.

The full details and terms and conditions are here – Basically you can apply for a maximum of 4 tickets per application and each person may only submit one application (or face disqualification from the draw).

The tickets will cost you ÂŁ430 for the full series of matches (ground entry) or ÂŁ950 for pavilion access for the series.

Welcome to the Ryder Cup 2006 Diary.

The Ryder Cup is that special event in the golfing calender which pits the cream of European golfers against the best of their American counterparts. The Ryder Cup is scheduled to be held in the K Club, Straffan, Co. Kildare, Ireland on September 22nd-24th. From now until then we will be bringing you insightful informed updates on the most exciting competition in golf. Will the Europeans be able to rekindle the powerful performance which gave them such a unanimous victory on the last outing or will Team USA be back focussed on regaining the honours.
