Park and Ride
Click here for a zoomed in view, note the new Park ‘n Ride facilities at pushpins 2 and 3.

Yep this is true albeit a little unbelievable. The southern park and ride facility for the Ryder Cup is moving. The park and ride facility which was previously located at Palmerstown House/PGA National Centre at Johnstown will no longer be in operation due to boggy conditions. Instead the new park ‘n ride facility will be located at the Punchestown Racecourse where (more…)

Changing Ryder Cup Tickets

Ryder Cup Tickets

Well contrary to what has been said on previous articles on this site I just found out this morning that it is possible to change the name on your Ryder Cup tickets. You need to contact the Ryder Cup Ticket office by using their contact form on www.rcts.co.uk or by emailing them at names@rcts.co.uk. You will need to send the full details for the orginal ticket holder and for the name of the person you wish to assign it to (this includes passport numbers and full names, addresses and dates of birth).

The bad news I’m afraid is that having tried all contact methods this morning I still am awaiting a response from them. If anybody else has any experience with this, positive or negative, please do let us know.

Ryder Cup News

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Blah Blah Blah

Well we’ve entered the final week of the Ryder Cup countdown and by this time next week we’ll know who the winners of the 2006 Ryder Cup are going to be (I’m swinging back towards Europe after a brief period backing the US!). In the meantime there’s loads of news and no news. (more…)

Paul McGinley – Hero or Zero?

Monday, September 11th, 2006

Paul McGinley

Three performances stand out on in career of Paul McGinley; representing Ireland on the winning team of the Golf World Cup in 1997, holing the winning put at the Belfry to secure victory for the European Team in the 2002 Ryder Cup and winning the Volvo Masters at Valderrama in 2005. These were big performances in big events but can he replicate it? Based on his current run of form the omens don’t look good and Woosnam must be worried.

At the weekend just gone McGinley again failed to make the cut at the Singapore Masters by a full five strokes. In the previous competition at the BMW International Open McGinley also failed to make the cut when a a big performance was needed from him to make absolutely sure of his own Ryder Cup place. Padraig Harrington Qualifies for the European Ryder Cup Team

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Padraig Harrington
And then there were two! Padraig Harrington today secured his place to become the eigth member of the European Ryder Cup team by making the cut at the BMW International Open in Munich leaving only two places still up for grabs. Irish people will breathe a sigh of relief that there will be at least on Irish player on the team as the Ryder Cup is played for the first time in Ireland this year. He may not be the last Irishman to qualify however.

Paul McGinley didn’t make the cut which means it is still possible for him to be caught by Edfors, Bickerton or Broadhurst in the Ryder Cup standings. (more…)

Harrington, McGinley and Olazabal – Ryder Cup Qualification Battle in Munich

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Padraig Harrington Paul McGinley Jose Maria Olazabal

The last qualifying event for the European Ryder Cup team tees off today at the BMW International Open in Munich and it really has come down to the wire.  The current European Ryder Cup points sees seven players secure in their automatic qualification spots however Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley and Jose Maria Olazábal can still all be caught.

There are endless permutations and combinations however here is the overview.  If Colin Montgomerie finishes 47th or higher in the event then this will push Olazábal off the World Cup Points list and into the last qualifying place on the European Points list.  This puts him within reach of the preceding five players Paul Broadhurst, Johan Edfors, (more…)

European Ryder Cup Points – August 30th

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

The Ryder Cup is firmly within view now. The US Ryder Cup team is finalised (and the US Captain’s picks announced) and as we enter the last week of the European qualifying competitions the team is beginning to become clear. This week see Olazabal re-entering the World Cup Points list putting the pressure back on McGinley who’s hanging on to the last place in the European Points list now that Montgomerie is also qualifying as top of the European Points list (See this article for how this works).

European Ryder Cup Points – August 21

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

The Ryder Cup is firmly within view now. This week saw the US Ryder Cup team finalised (and the US Captain’s picks announced) and as we enter the last weeks of the European qualifying competitions the team is beginning to become clear. There’s still a lot of competition for those last places. Here’s the latest standings for who’s going to make the European Ryder Cup Team on merit.

Interestingly Olazábal has now dropped out of the World Cup Points list and qualifies under the European Points list which has inadvertently given McGinley a boost in his hopes despite not playing in the US PGA Championship to attend the funeral of Heather Clarke (See this article for how this works).

Taxi Strike for the Ryder Cup

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

No Taxi
The President of the National Taxi Drivers Union in Ireland, Tommy Gorman, has admitted there would certainly be disruption to next month’s Ryder Cup at the K Club in Co Kildare after up to 1,000 taxi-drivers in Dublin have voted to strike for the event. The strike, in response to a new price structure being proposed by the industry’s regulator, is likely to impact heavily on the Ryder Cup as thousands of spectators will attend, many requiring transport for the 18 miles from Dublin.
