Blah Blah Blah

Well it’s the silly season, there’s no real news on the Ryder Cup front… The teams have been selected and the next real news will be when they start to play. That doesn’t stop the media filling column inches though does it? Here’s a roundup of some of the inanity:

Who is on the Ryder Cup Team Europe 2006?

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

Paul McGinley and Jose Maria Olazabal can both breathe a sigh of relief as they have both automatically qualified for the Ryder Cup Team. None of the other potential qualifiers could manage to do what was required to displace McGinley and Olazabal at the BMW Open.

Woosnam has also announced his two captains wildcard picks they are unsurprisingly Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood.

So the final lineup of the European Ryder Cup Team is as follows:

Paul Casey, Darren Clarke, Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, David Howell, Robert Karlsson, Paul McGinley, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Henrik Stenson and Lee Westwood

The teams are almost finalised. The US team is set and there are just four European places (2 automatic and 2 wildcard positions) to be confirmed. McGinley and Jose Maria Olazabal look set to take the 9th and 10th places in the team. So what are the Odds? (more…)

Padraig Harrington
And then there were two! Padraig Harrington today secured his place to become the eigth member of the European Ryder Cup team by making the cut at the BMW International Open in Munich leaving only two places still up for grabs. Irish people will breathe a sigh of relief that there will be at least on Irish player on the team as the Ryder Cup is played for the first time in Ireland this year. He may not be the last Irishman to qualify however.

Paul McGinley didn’t make the cut which means it is still possible for him to be caught by Edfors, Bickerton or Broadhurst in the Ryder Cup standings. (more…)

Map of K Club
If you’re tryin to work out how to get to the Ryder Cup at the K Club this map may help. If you click on the map or click here it will take you to Microsoft’s new map service at live.com.

I’ve marked out the following:

1. The K Club

2. Park and Ride from the PGA National Ireland in Johnstown

3. Park and Ride from Weston Aerodrome

Remember there is a 2 km exclusion zone for cars and the only practical way of getting to the Ryder Cup is to use the park and ride facilities. The alternative is to use the Irish Rail shuttle – This involves a train from Connolly station and a shuttle bus service to the K Club from the closest station at Leixlip. An inclusive day return costs €20 per person.
Tickets can be purchased here from Irish Rail. There are some terms and conditions, which can be seen here.
