The President of the National Taxi Drivers Union in Ireland, Tommy Gorman, has admitted there would certainly be disruption to next month’s Ryder Cup at the K Club in Co Kildare after up to 1,000 taxi-drivers in Dublin have voted to strike for the event. The strike, in response to a new price structure being proposed by the industry’s regulator, is likely to impact heavily on the Ryder Cup as thousands of spectators will attend, many requiring transport for the 18 miles from Dublin. Taxi Strike for the Ryder Cup
Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006Ryder Cup Security
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006The security for the Ryder Cup matches at the K Club WILL be rigorous. Take some time to find out what is likely to happen on the day and save yourself a lot of trouble. Use your common sense and don’t bring sharp objects etc. Here are some of the things you need to know:

No Phones – leave your mobile at home or in your car

No Cameras – leave your camera at home
Passport required – you will need your passport as well as your ticket to get in (tickets are non transferable according to the organisers)
Security Check – there will be a personal security check on entry similar to airport security
Good humour – your going to be delayed hassled and annoyed so bring a large dose of good humour. It will be worth it.
Needless to say knives guns and weapons of mass distruction are also banned! With 40,000 people a day expected I think it’s safe to say you should get there early and expect delays. Remember there is an 2km exclusion zone for cars

Darren Clarke Wildcard
Monday, August 21st, 2006The rumour mill has it that Darren Clarke has been offered one of the European Team wildcard slots by Ian Woosenam.
Darren will not make the top ten automatic selection places this time around as he has been focusing his attention on his wife Heather who recently passed away.
Woosnam could really use Clarke’s Ryder Cup experience (he has been on three winning Ryder cup teams since 1997) but it’s unclear whether Darren will accept the offer. Everyone is certainly rooting for him but I think that all Ryder Cup fans will accept that even though the tournament would be better with Darren on board, he may understandably need more time to grieve his wife and be with his sons.
Heather Clarke
Monday, August 14th, 2006Our deepest sympathy is extended to Darren Clarke and his family on the death of his wife Heather.
Heather Clarke passed away at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London early yesterday after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Heather (39) was the mother of Tyrone (8), and Conor (5) and our thoughts are with her two young sons at this difficult time.
Palmer to attend Ryder Cup at K Club
Wednesday, August 9th, 2006Arnold Palmer has confirmed that he will attend the Ryder Cup Matches at the K Club in September.
Having both designed the course for the K Club and starred on the victorious Team USA side a record six times, Arnold will have a particular interest in the unfolding drama at the K Club. As the architect of the course, he seems confident that the fine tuning of the parkland style course will provide the platform for an exciting competition. In light of some of the sniping about the suitability of the course, it’s interesting to note that he is very proud of his work on the Straffan course and feels that it is one of his best. It was after all designed specifically to host a major tournament from the outset. (more…)
